Meet Coach Mike!

Michael Neely’s journey through the world of tennis is a powerful story of natural talent, relentless determination, and self-made success. A native of Memphis, TN, Michael began making waves in the tennis scene as a teenager. He attended South Side High School, where he established himself as a star player, dominating every high school tournament in the Memphis area. By the time he graduated in 1980, his undefeated record and reputation as one of the city’s most gifted athletes had already made him a local legend.

His excellence on the court earned him multiple tennis scholarships from several universities, where he quickly rose to become the number one player on the team he joined. What made Michael’s achievements even more impressive was that he was entirely self-taught – developing his game through determination, observation, and relentless practice rather than formal coaching. His ability to rise to the top of collegiate tennis without traditional training underscored his raw ability and disciplined mindset.

In 1990, Michael turned professional and competed on the pro tennis tour for two years. Unlike many of his peers, he entered the professional circuit without sponsorships, endorsements, or outside financial support. Every step of his career was built on personal sacrifice and inner drive. Despite the challenges, he proved himself capable of competing at the highest levels, relying solely on the skills he had honed on his own.

Today, Michael Neely continues to share his passion for the game as a Certified Tennis Instructor through the United States National Tennis Academy. With decades of experience behind him, he brings unmatched knowledge, firsthand competitive insight, and a motivational spirit to every lesson. Whether coaching beginners or advanced players, Michael is committed to helping others unlick their full potential – just as he did, against all odds.
